Who is Janelle? I’m from the island of Trinidad and Tobago, the home of carnival and calypso, so yes I love a good party. I love theatre and music and would probably annoy you if we went long distance driving because I sing everything (and am pretty good at it, too).. Another cool thing about me is that I love roller skating. Roller skating is a breath of fresh air for me. It’s like Love and Hip Hop, but with skates. I have so many fun memories around roller skating and it is my happy place to go to when I am feeling sad or just need to get out of my head. I feel free and throw on my skates at every chance that I get. Do you have a friend that no matter the amount of time you spend apart, whenever you meet up, it’s like no time has passed? YUP! That my skates.It’s my solace and my turn up. I’m not too shabby either.
So why did girl with a background in construction trade in her hard hat for hearts and become an event planner? I've been in love with fabulous events since I planned my own wedding in 2007, and truly realized my passion. With the encouragement from my hubby, Kayla Belle Events was launched and I've been falling more and more in love with every event since.
I never imagined I would be in this field but it came out of necessity. During my planning process there was a lack of representation of women who looked like me. I felt alone and intimidated, not to mention overwhelmed. One major mistake I made was with the wedding budget since I had no guidance on how much things really cost and thought that I could just figure it out on my own. I look back and realize the insanity of that and have made it a point to be real with my couples about pricing and cost since that is a major part of planning any event. I created this space so that black brides could find resources to assist them with navigating the planning process within their own communities. It’s been amazing
